Happy first day of fall! 'Tis the season for Pumpkin Pie Spice to start popping up in recipes everywhere. From breads to cookies yo pies to lattes, it's the go-to autumn baking blend... and I just figured out that you can make it yourself. Spoiler alert: it only takes about 5 minutes!
First things first. Check your cabinet! There are only 5 spices in this blend, and chances are you probably already have several of them. That being said... make sure your spices are fresh before you throw them in the mix. Martha Stewart says 6 months is the recommended shelf life for ground spices, but I read up to 1 year on a few other sites. I'll leave it up to your good judgement. ;)
I also made an amazon shopping list for you, to make life a little easier. Just click HERE for my affiliate site and you can have everything shipped right to you. (I even linked to some cute little jars, because I think jars of Pumpkin Pie Spice would be an awesome gift!)
Well, without further ado.... here it is!
DIY Pumpkin Pie Spice
3 TB ground cinnamon
2 tsp ground ginger
1 tsp ground nutmeg
1 tsp ground allspice
1 tsp ground cloves
Whisk it all together and you've got yourself about 1/3 cup (1.25 oz) of Pumpkin Pie Spice... about enough for 6 (ish) recipes.
